God’s help, Waiting, God’s blessing.

This is another podcast where I will share some Bible verses that I used over the many years I was struggling to find a wife, that enabled me to not lose my faith. 

Deut. 30:20-God is your life.

2 Chron. 20:12-15-The battle is not yours but God’s.

Deut. 8:2,3-And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou would keep his commandments, or not.  And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knew not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man does not live by bread only, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.

Psalm 62:1-My soul waits only upon God, from him comes my salvation.

Isaiah-8:17-I will wait upon the Lord, who hides his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

Isaiah 40:31- But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 49:23-They shall not be ashamed that wait on me.

Lamentations 3:25,26-The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.  It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Psalm 23:1-The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want (lack).

Proverbs 13:4-The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.

Psalm 34:10-The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.

Psalm 84:11,12-For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusts in thee.

Phil. 4:19- And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (the context is very generous giving)

Isaiah 55:1,2-“Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money,

 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy?

Psalm 37:4,5-Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Commityour way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Mathew 7:11- If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Suffering, Complaining, Comfort, Contentment. Let's get real. When you need encouragement, you turn to the Bible. Here are some verses about suffering, complaining, comfort and contentment.

2Cor.4:17- For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Psalm 56:8-You keep track of all my sorrows.You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

Matthew 10:29,30-Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.

Phil.3:7-10- But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.  Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. Psalm 17:3-I have resolved that my mouth should sin not.

Phil. 4:11,12-I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want…I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

1 Timothy 6:6-Godliness with contentment is great gain.

Proverbs 14:30-A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones. (Don’t envy those who are married)

Rom. 8:18-For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time, can not compare to the glory that shall be revealed in us.

Don’t worry, Be Thankful, Love, God is good. These Bible verses helped me survive 30 years of singleness.

Isaiah 43:1-2-But now, this says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob.  And He who formed you, O Israel:  Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.  When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8-Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude.  It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.  Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never ends.

1 Peter 4:8-Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.

Maturity, Obedience and God’s blessings  

I could also have called this “At the end of your rope” Sometimes, all you have to run on is hope; that’s your fuel.  That’s what keeps you going.  We all have our pain, that thing or circumstance we fight against and wonder if it is going to beat us.  We long for something we need.  I finally got what I needed but it wasn’t without a major battle to survive mentally and emotionally.  Today it is 2020 but this all began around 1985.  I was clinging to my sanity, my faith was being challenged, and my health was declining.  By the way, please share scripture verses that have been meaningful to you! I have tremendous empathy for singles who want to marry, who believe God wants them to marry, but haven’t been able to.  I know what it’s like.  I have to be honest with you that the way I can offer help is not by telling you that you should just be content and not make a big deal out of it, not by criticizing you for wanting something you don’t have, not by trying to convince you singleness is best, but by trying to encourage you to not give up hope and that Gods word guides us.

Some of you have been married know what it is like to have those arguments that result in sleeping alone.  After about three months we had our “break in” argument.  The kind that makes me realize we really are married, and can’t just get away.  I would never want to hurt her but years ago we had the first time we had to deal with a big conflict with each other. 

You can say “The  bloom is off the rose” and it is going to happen eventually.  At some point you are going to have a big-time disagreement with your Filipina fiancé or wife, and you may not even be totally sure what it is about.  In our case, if I raise my voice in frustration or utter a few bad words, even if they are on the mild side, she will be very upset with me.  After we were married, I told my wife she could talk to me about things I did that upset her because I needed to know so that I could work on those things. 

By this time in our relationship, I knew I screwed up, and learned how it affected her.  This was my first jam to work out of, by asking her to forgive me, but also by resolving to become the man she wants me to be, and that God wants me to be.  I believe God gave her to me partly to help me to become more Christ-like, and vice versa.

Everyone with a YouTube channel needs to decide on a name for it, which can be intimidating.  You want to give it a name that is easy to remember and relates to the main content, the main theme.  My name is very similar to the popular channel Life Beyond The Sea but in no way was I intending to copy the content of that very interesting and informative channel.

Probably it was after I returned from marrying my wife in the Philippines, when I first noticed Life Beyond The Sea.  The man who does the channel moved from California at about age 49 to the Philippines.  His channel documents his life there.  What makes this a good channel is the variety of topics, the editing skill, and that Reekay is transparent as well as well spoken. 

I haven't checked in a while but he has got to be close to 55,000 subscribers and has earned every one of them.  So obviously many of us know of his channel and what to expect there.

When I started thinking about what I could share on YouTube, and I had previously never wanted to have a YouTube channel, it didn't take long at all for the name Love Beyond The Sea to pop into my mind.  I had just gotten married and returned from a surreal experience in the Philippines so love was on my mind.  If anyone thinks I am trying to rip off his channel name in some way, I have too much respect for the empire he has built.  Love Beyond The Sea seemed so natural for what the vision of what I wanted the channel to be about that I chose that name.

Today I will explain the reasoning behind my YouTube channel name and some key differences between it and Life Beyond The Sea. George will also have a Philippines Vlogging Community Post of the Day.

One day my wife asked me if I thought we would know each other in heaven.  That is a very good question and is on the minds of everyone who has lost or knows they will lose a spouse that they love deeply.

First of all, the thought of not being with my Amazing Aiza is a disturbing thought.  I love her very much and I will spend the rest of my life trying to demonstrate that to her.  In five and a half years of marriage we have had the usual flare ups or arguments, but nothing serious.  We make up rather quickly.  Recently after a particularly wonderful weekend with her, I started to miss her an hour after I got to work on Monday. 

I have her photos in as many places as I can, because even though she is on my mind constantly, I never get tired of seeing her face, of seeing us together because of all the memories it produces.  By the time I pass away, I can just imagine how many more memories we will make. 

She is my best friend.  I have told her it would be very difficult for me to marry again if she would die before I do.  If that were to happen, I can see myself trying to motivate myself to keep going in life, that despite the pain, I will see my wife again, and for an eternity!  The Bible teaches there is no marriage in heaven as that is an earthly institution, but what about seeing our loved ones in heaven, provided they are saved in Jesus Christ.  These words from a Grace To You archive I will link are how I would answer my wife’s question.

I want to begin this by saying that if you do feel incomplete without a wife and it’s bothering you, that’s perfectly fine and natural.  If you feel something isn’t quite right with being single, that you can’t stop yearning for a mate, there is nothing wrong with that.

There is nothing wrong with being single.  For most marriage is best, for those who don’t burn with passion, singleness is better.  In other words, if marriage is necessary to avoid sexual sin, then one should marry.  1 Corinthians 7:2 tells us to avoid sexual sin to let every man have his own wife and let every woman have her own husband.  This has the force of a command.

The question “Are you incomplete without a wife?” can make some people upset-They might reply “Why would I be incomplete?” or “In what way am I incomplete?” or “Is there something wrong with me?”  I have been a Christian for a long time and have often heard that man was incomplete without a wife, which comes from Genesis 2:18 where it says that “it is not good for man to be alone, I will make him a helper suitable for him.”  The context is the first man ever created and he was created without a mate.  This was no accident.
